Hospice Billing Coordinator

A person who is a high school graduate or equivalent. Preferably two year experience in home health care or hospice setting, strongly preferred. At least one year of previous health care related billing experience, preferably in hospice care.  


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (includes but not limited to the following):

  1. Creates Hospice patient chart and assigns clinical team.
  2. Uploads patient referral and insurance verification to patient chart.
  3. Orders initial DME equipment and tracks DME requests.
  4. Uploads initial admission consents and medical records to patient chart.
  5. Creates and prepares Start of Care patient packets, patient folders and patient handbooks.
  6. Accurately enters patient billing data, including visit charges and supply charges, into the information system.
  7. Enters notes in the prescribed manner set by the billing department management staff.
  8. Accurately processes and bills Medicare claims in accordance with payer requirements and organization policy.
  9. Assists in the preparation of monthly Casper Reports. Gathers and submits Casper Reporting.
  10. Maintains complete and accurate cumulative report.
  11. Alerts appropriate management team members regarding late or missing documents required for billing.
  12. Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with managers and co-workers.
  13. Maintains and updates EOE and Referral logs.
  14. Maintains the confidentiality of patient and organization information at all times.
  15. Performs special projects, relating to billing, data entry, computer operations and other work-related tasks as designated in a timely and professional manner.


  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. 2 years of vocational, technical or college strongly preferred.
  3. 1-2 years of experience in medical billing or related field.
  4. Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD-10, and CPT coding is strongly preferred.
  5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and medical billing software.
  6. Knowledge of Hospice Intake and Billing is strongly preferred.
  7. Basic knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid program and insurance credentialing is strongly preferred.
  8. Excellent communication skills both verbal and written as well as customer service skills.
  9. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  10. Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  11. Bilingual English/Spanish is strongly preferred.
