Veteran Healthcare

What is the "We Honor Veterans" Program?

The "We Honor Veterans" program is a pioneering initiative focused on recognizing the unique needs of America's Veterans and their families. Through respectful inquiry, compassionate listening, and grateful acknowledgment, hospices and healthcare providers learn to accompany and guide veterans through their life stories toward a more peaceful ending.

At Tender Care Home Health & Hospice, we hold a deep respect for those who have served our country. That's why we're proud to participate in the "We Honor Veterans" program, a partnership between the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This program is a significant part of our commitment to veteran healthcare.

Benefits of Participation

The "We Honor Veterans" program equips us with valuable educational tools and resources to enhance our ability to serve veterans. Through tiered recognition, known as Partner levels, organizations like ours assess our capacity to serve veterans and integrate best practices for end-of-life care into our veteran healthcare services.

We proudly accept TriCare and TriWest health insurance. Call one of our locations today or schedule a free consultation.

Understanding VA Hospice Benefits

At Tender Care Home Health & Hospice, we are committed to providing comprehensive support and resources to veterans and their families as they navigate end-of-life care. As part of our dedication to serving those who have served our country, we understand the importance of accessing available benefits, including VA hospice care.

The VA hospice benefit operates similarly to the Medicare hospice benefit, ensuring that eligible veterans receive the compassionate care they deserve. Here's an overview of what the VA hospice benefit includes:

Interdisciplinary Team: Veterans enrolled in hospice care through the VA benefit from a dedicated interdisciplinary team. This team typically consists of a physician, registered nurse, social worker, certified nurse assistant, chaplain, bereavement counselor, and volunteer. Each member of the team plays a crucial role in providing personalized care and support tailored to the veteran's unique needs and preferences.

Pharmaceuticals: VA hospice coverage includes pharmaceuticals related to the terminal diagnosis. This ensures that veterans have access to the medications they need to manage symptoms and maintain comfort during their end-of-life journey.

Medical Supplies: Veterans receiving hospice care through the VA benefit from coverage for necessary medical supplies. This may include items such as wound care supplies, incontinence products, and other essential medical equipment to support their comfort and well-being.

Medical Equipment: The VA hospice benefit also covers durable medical equipment essential for veterans' comfort and mobility. This includes items such as wheelchairs, walkers, electric beds, oxygen therapy equipment, and more. Access to these resources helps veterans maintain their independence and quality of life while receiving hospice care.

Veteran Resources

At Tender Care Home Health & Hospice, we understand the importance of providing comprehensive care and support to our veterans. That's why we're committed to connecting veterans with valuable resources to help them navigate their unique healthcare needs with dignity and respect. Here are some essential veteran resources that can make a significant difference:

Department of Veterans Affairs (VA): The VA offers a wide range of services and benefits for veterans, including healthcare, disability compensation, education and training, employment assistance, and housing support. Veterans can access these services through their local VA facilities or online through the VA website or by calling 1-844-698-2311.

Veterans Health Administration (VHA): The VHA provides comprehensive healthcare services to eligible veterans, including primary care, specialty care, mental health services, and long-term care. Veterans can learn more about VHA services and eligibility criteria by contacting their local VA medical center or by calling 1-800-827-8387.

Veterans Crisis Line:  For veterans in crisis or in need of immediate support, the Veterans Crisis Line offers free, confidential assistance 24/7. Veterans can call, text, or chat online with trained crisis counselors who can provide emotional support, crisis intervention, and referrals to local resources. The toll-free hotline number is 1-800-273-8255, and veterans can also text 838255 or chat online at veteranscrisisline.net.

Veterans Service Organizations (VSOs): VSOs are nonprofit organizations that provide advocacy, support, and assistance to veterans and their families. These organizations can help veterans navigate the VA system, apply for benefits, and access community resources. Some well-known VSOs include the American LegionVeterans of Foreign Wars (VFW)Disabled American Veterans (DAV), and Vietnam Veterans of America (VVA).

State and Local Veteran Affairs Offices: Many states and local communities have dedicated offices or agencies that provide assistance and support to veterans. These offices can help veterans access state-specific benefits, programs, and services, such as employment assistance, housing assistance, and education benefits.

Military OneSource: Military OneSource is a Department of Defense program that offers free, confidential support and resources to service members, veterans, and their families. Services include non-medical counseling, financial counseling, legal assistance, and support for military families during deployments and transitions.

Community Organizations and Support Groups: Many community organizations, nonprofit agencies, and local support groups offer programs and services specifically designed to meet the needs of veterans. These organizations may provide assistance with housing, employment, healthcare, mental health support, and social activities. Tender Care Home Health & Hospice provides family and caregiver support which provides guidance and encouragement for veterans and their families.
